What a journey it has been. What began as a temporary project has, over the last 4 years, evolved into something so much bigger than any of us could have imagined. Over 3,000 volunteers have walked through our doors. Countless lives have been changed and countless memories have been made. We have overcome many challenges, each one making us stronger than the last. The dedication and perseverance of our volunteers has kept this organization running strong through thick and thin. That said, like the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. We report to you today to let you know that this will be the final year for Pisco Sin Fronteras. While the hard work still continues on the ground, we will soon begin concentrating our efforts on executing several capstone projects and shutting down operations.
We began our work here as a disaster relief organization. Yet five years after the earthquake we still remain, today focused on poverty relief. PSF has been a wonderful model for a charity organization, and allowed many of us the opportunity to participate in projects we would not otherwise have had the chance to do. Many of us have been able to learn new skills, teach tricks of their trade, and push the limits of what we thought was possible here. However, despite everyone’s best efforts, the obstacles we’ve faced in the process of formalization have prevented the establishment of the fundamental pillars needed to sustain our particular organizational model. Please understand that this decision has been carefully made over the last few months, with every option for our future being fully explored. As an administration we have determined that the best thing to do is to finish our work here on a high note, on our own terms, instead of potentially fading into the dust. We have become a highly respected organization, and many of us will continue on to do similar work in the future. It is important to all of us to keep that reputation intact and let our global community know that we will not let this organization crumble beneath our feet. We all have too much love and passion for Pisco and PSF to let that happen. As PSF continues to work hard to finish strong, we will begin utilizing our remaining resources on several capstone projects, and developing a comprehensive closure plan in the coming weeks.
That said, it is incredible that this organization has made it so far. Thanks to the hard work from every volunteer who ever came to help, we’ve made something amazing. PSF was never set up to last this long. It is you – the volunteers, donors, community members and collaborators – who have kept it going. For this, we applaud you, and we thank you. The truth is, without your help and support over the last few years, we never would have been able to do this. Though closing is heartbreaking for many of us, take solace in the fact that every person who has contributed to PSF has helped create a brighter future for the people of Pisco. We implore you to set your minds to continue finding solutions for the problems that exist not only here but throughout the world, and we hope that your experience here has broadened your perception and enhanced your ability to make a positive contribution. This is not the end by any means; instead it is the beginning of something beautiful. We have all been given the opportunity to learn what it takes to make a difference. Now it’s time to take off the training wheels. Everywhere you go you will find people in need. How will we help them? How will you keep the PSF spirit alive? A good man once said, “With love in our hearts and power in our minds, anything is possible.”
We send out our sincerest thanks to all those who have helped us in our mission since 2008, and wish you the best in all your future endeavors.
