We are looking for possibly long term volunteers for our educational program.
We are also looking for a web designer, if you have any experience get in touch with us.
Goals & objectives:
- Provide new opportunities to the locals to enhance their academic and vocational abilities.
- Incorporate constructive extra-curricular activities for children.
- Capacity build locals to increase job opportunities or enhance current skills
- Work alongside local and national organizations to improve the education system in Pisco.
- Ludoteca- PSF sustains a local children’s day-care centre for the children in the community of Alameda. This is a free service operated by a certified local Peruvian with the support of PSF volunteers. Alameda is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Pisco, and Ludoteca provides a safe environment for children from low socio-economic backgrounds to enjoy learning, receive structured play time, receive weekly workshops from a local psychologist, learn about hygiene and healthy eating from a nurse from the local hospital, looking after their environment and much more. This is a great service for the community as this child care centre allows parents to work while knowing their children will be looked after in a fun, stimulating and safe environment.
- Technical training- we are working alongside Pro Joven, a national organization that works with youngsters from 16-24 that teach home economics, information technology and construction. PSF will develop a training programme about earth bag construction and incorporate this as part of Pro Joven's plan to create as many career opportunities for youngsters in Peru.
- English classes- we provide English classes to university students, primary and secondary school students, local fishermen, and offer weekend classes to the local community in our HQ. There is a very high demand to teach English throughout Pisco, and we are continually looking to increase the number of English classes we offer.
- Sports program- we have developed a sports programme to teach football and basketball to children in Pisco. In addition, we incorporate moral values such as team work, the importance of compromising, sharing and more. We will also be working with children with physical and learning disabilities to focus on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and coordination, strength and endurance as well as cognitive and sensory processing/integration.
